START OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 2/12/07 Meeting:
Meeting convened at 7:00 pm, 25 members, 2 probationary, 1 guest and 1 honorary member present. The February Minutes (as edited to correct date) and Treasurer’s report were approved.
Unfinished and Old Business:
There was a good all day effort putting siding on the clubhouse, the soffit and fascia were completed, the gable ends and pump house are next.
New Business:
President Scott appointed a committee (Dick Brame, Jeff DeSantis and Ray Campbell) to recommend to the club an addition to the Constitution and Bylaws that would give the club the flexibility to remove a member. Currently the only way a member can be removed is if he or she commits a safety violation. The committee will report back at the next meeting.
There will also be a request to increase the membership by 25 members next year.
In order for Boy Scouts to receive a merit badge for shooting the instructors must be NRA certified instructors. There are several in the Club that would be available to help out, the possibility of having the Boy Scout troop leaders certified was discussed also.
Ashley RPTC shooters – The Ashley High School ROPTC shooting team would like to compete in the state Hunter Safety Tournament held annually and may need some financial help. Robert Neale is going to explore the need with Dave Foster, the Ashley coach and report back.
Background checks on new members was discussed. The possibility of requiring each prospective new member to obtain either a pistol purchasing permit or a concealed carry permit was discussed.

FROM THE LEGISLATIVE BENCH
From The Legislative Bench... The story of Jim Zumbo the “Dumbo” is sad indeed. As an outdoor writer and hunter he represents, by default, our sporting community in the public eye. The commentaries of such “sportsmen” have a trickle down affect on the perceptions of the Second Amendment. His thoughts were posted on his blog and created a firestorm of opinion. His post was as follows:
Assault Rifles For Hunters?
by Jim Zumbo
"As I write this, I'm hunting coyotes in southeastern Wyoming with Eddie Stevenson, PR Manager for Remington Arms, Greg Dennison, who is senior research engineer for Remington, and several writers. We're testing Remington's brand new .17 cal Spitfire bullet on coyotes.
I must be living in a vacuum. The guides on our hunt tell me that the use of AR and AK rifles have a rapidly growing following among hunters, especially prairie dog hunters. I had no clue. Only once in my life have I ever seen anyone using one of these firearms.
I call them "assault" rifles, which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles. They tell me that some companies are producing assault rifles that are "tackdrivers."
Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our "sporting firearms."
This really has me concerned. As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the praries and woods."
What was he thinking? Obviously, he posted his true opinion of certain firearms which he has chosen to view as others do in the anti-gun ilk... with strong language dripping with contempt. Not only was this devastating for his career, but it is more bad press for our firearms community to deal with... and from within. “Fifth Columnist” comes to mind. The anti’s will use this to bolster their quest for the resurrection of the Assault Weapons Ban. There is a “party” in Congress... putting on their funny hats and dancing to Disney’s title music of “Dumbo”.
Zumbo has issued an apology for his post. He and a few others in his support group say he was not thinking clearly. Clearly he was... the spew came forth as he intended. His apology follows after his sponsors, such as Outdoor Life, Remington, et al, severed their ties with him. Oh well, he can always get a public relations job on the Hill.
Cuddle your “black rifle”,
Ron

Headline......Mule Kills Nagging Wife
An old Texas farmer had a wife who nagged him unmercifully. From morning till night (and sometimes later), she was always complaining about something. The only time he got any relief was when he was out plowing with his old mule.
He tried to plow a lot.
One day, when he was out plowing, his wife brought him lunch in the field. He drove the old mule into the shade, sat down on a stump, and began to eat his lunch. Immediately, his wife began haranguing him again. Complain, nag, nag; it just went on and on.
All of a sudden, the old mule lashed out with both hind feet; caught her smack in the back of the head. Killed her dead on the spot.
At the funeral several days later, the minister noticed something rather odd. When a woman mourner would approach the old farmer, he would listen for a minute, then nod his head in agreement; but when a man mourner approached him, he would listen for a minute, then shake his head in disagreement. This was so consistent, the minister decided to ask the old farmer about it.
So after the funeral, the minister spoke to the old farmer, and asked him why he nodded his head and agreed with the women, but always shook his head and disagreed with all the men. The old farmer said; 'Well, the women would come up and say something about how nice my wife looked, or how pretty her dress was, so I'd nod my head in agreement.'
'And what about the men?' the minister asked.
'They all wanted to know if the mule was for sale.'
