FROM THE LEGISLATIVE BENCH
From The Legislative Bench... as the New Year unfolds it will be “interesting’ to see what type and number of anti-gun assaults we will endure. Dust off your flack jackets for they come from all angles. One of the first volleys from the left was the attempt to hinder grassroots organizations with cumbersome detail paperwork regarding information provided to membership and the public at large. The following information in bold italics from Gun Owners of America provides insight into one of the backdoor attempts... restricting the First Amendment in order to erode the Second Amendment:
Congratulations! You have, once again, whupped the anti-gun zealots!
As Constitution-hating senators like California's Dianne Feinstein
whined and complained, the Senate -- by a narrow largely-party-line vote
of 55-43 -- struck language which would have required GOA to monitor and
report on its communications with its members and friends (like you).
GOA has heard reports that there was an outpouring of calls against this
anti-speech language on Capitol Hill, and that it made a huge
difference.
In addition to the massive wave of grassroots opposition, GOA was also
working in concert with key Hill players (many of them trained by GOA)
to hammer out a legislative strategy that would either result in the
death of the entire bill or, at a minimum, kill the dangerous Section
220.
The good news came late on Thursday night when the Bennett amendment --
which deleted this unconstitutional "grassroots lobbying" reporting
language contained in S. 1 -- was adopted by the narrow margin mentioned
above.
The war is not over. The House has yet to produce its bill in this area
-- and no one is betting that the House will "do the right thing." But
we have won what perhaps will be the most important battle.
The 43 Senators who voted to take us down the road of more government
regulation and more restrictions on the right of free speech – a road
that would eventually make it harder for all of us to petition our
government servants -- are listed below:
Akaka (D-HI), Biden (D-DE), Bingaman (D-NM), Boxer (D-CA), Brown (D-OH),
Byrd (D-WV), Cantwell (D-WA), Cardin (D-MD), Carper (D-DE), Casey
(D-PA), Clinton (D-NY), Dodd (D-CT), Durbin (D-IL), Feingold (D-WI),
Feinstein (D-CA), Harkin (D-IA), Inouye (D-HI), Kennedy (D-MA), Kerry
(D-MA), Klobuchar (D-MN),
Kohl (D-WI), Lautenberg (D-NJ), Leahy (D-VT), Levin (D-MI), Lieberman
(ID-CT), Lincoln (D-AR), McCaskill (D-MO), Menendez (D-NJ), Mikulski
(D-MD), Murray (D-WA), Nelson (D-FL), Obama (D-IL), Pryor (D-AR), Reed
(D-RI), Reid (D-NV), Rockefeller (D-WV), Sanders (I-VT), Schumer (D-NY),
Stabenow (D-MI), Tester (D-MT), Webb (D-VA),Whitehouse (D-RI), Wyden
(D-OR)
Quite a motley crew, eh? The “usual suspects” know the purpose of such legislation... one would hope the newly recruited Senators research the intentions of this type legislation... if not, there are some new light bulbs with low wattage on the Hill. What a wonder that the infamous ilk consists of all Democrats with two Independents... no Republicans. Hmmm. That’s not to say we don’t have legislative friends in the Democratic Party... we do, just not many. What was the Democratic Party symbol? Oh, yeah. Well, elephants are fat and Independents are no animal at all.
The following information in bold italics was provided by GRNC... alarming intentions from our very own Senator Julia Boseman
GRNC
recently issued an alert regarding two horrific gun control bills filed
in the NC Senate by Senator JULIA BOSEMAN (D-New Hanover, GRNC 0-star).
Sen. Boseman has responded to your calls and e-mails by
claiming that GRNC is wrong about her bills. Below are the lies she is
telling constituents, along with the exact content of the bills and the
url for the General Assembly so you too can see exactly how she is
lying. Please use GRNC's automated e-mail AGAIN to send a NEW message to
the NC Senate.
SB 8: 'CHILD PREDATOR PROTECTION ACT'
SB 8, deceptively titled "Expand Safe Zones/Schools, Parks, Child Ctrs,"
should really be called the "Child Predator Protection Act" because it
would completely prevent gun owners from protecting their children and
families. By banning guns in *every* playground, child care center and
PUBLIC PARK in the state-along with their PARKING LOTS-it would create
so many "victim disarmament zones," potentially including even fast food
restaurants like McDonalds if they have children's playground areas,
that it would render North Carolina's
concealed handgun statute worthless.
BOSEMAN'S LIE: "The current version of SB 8, Expanding Safe Zone Around
Schools, does not include firearms limits. It is aimed at preventing
drug dealers and their contraband from getting closer to child-oriented
areas."
THE TRUTH: Although Sections 1 and 2 of the bill deal with illegal drug
sales and increase penalties for carrying weapons on educational
property, Section 3 creates a new §14-269.5(b), entitled "Possessing or
carrying firearms in public parks, in child care centers, or on
playgrounds," which says: "It is unlawful for any person to possess
or carry, whether openly or concealed, any gun, rifle, or pistol in any
public park, in any child care center, or on any playground."

SB 9: 'DOMESTIC ABUSER PROTECTION ACT'
SB 9, "Domestic Violence/No Firearm Purchase," is equally deceptive.
While purporting to prevent "domestic abusers" from purchasing firearms
while under restraining orders, in reality it enables a judge to prevent
THE VICTIM from obtaining a firearm for self-protection, demonstrating
once again that liberals running the NC Senate think NOBODY should be
able to protect themselves-not even people who fear for their lives.
BOSEMAN'S LIE: "Your understanding of Senate Bill 9 is incorrect. Senate
Bill 9 requires that the judge prohibit the DEFENDANT (NOT the abused
victim) from purchasing a firearm. Therefore, your statement that the
bill would "disarm" victims is not only incorrect; it is misleading to
anyone who receives it."
THE TRUTH: Defendants under protective orders are **already prohibited**
from purchasing firearms under §50B-3.1(d)(1), which became law in
December, 2003. SB 9 amends §50B-3(a) to say: "...a protective order may
include any of the following types of relief... (11) Prohibit a party
plaintiff from purchasing a firearm for a time fixed in the order."
WHAT IT MEANS: By striking the word "party" and substituting the word
"plaintiff"-meaning the VICTIM SEEKING THE PROTECTIVE ORDER-it enables
judges to bar victims from purchasing guns for self-protection.

BUCCANEER RANGE REGULATOR GAZETTE
January 1897 Headline: Sheriff Holliday vs New York Lawyer
An New York lawyer comes flying through Regulatorville on his horse and doesn't stop and one of Sheriff Holliday’s stop signs....So the good sheriff pulls him over. He thinks that he is smarter than the Sheriff because he is a lawyer from New York and is certain that he has a better education than any law dawg from Regulatorville. He decides to prove this to himself and have some fun at the Sheriff's expense. Sheriff Holliday asks for his ownership papers to give him a citation.
Lawyer says, "What for?"
Sheriff says, " You didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign."
Lawyer says, "I slowed down, and no one was coming."
Sheriff says, "You still didn't come to a complete stop.
Lawyer says, "What's the difference?"
Sheriff says, "The difference is, you have to come to a complete stop, that's the law.”
.Lawyer says, "If you can show me the legal difference between slow down and stop, I'll give you my license and registration; and you give me the ticket. If not, you let me go and don't give me the ticket."
Sheriff says, "Sounds fair. Dismount please, sir."
At this point, Sheriff Holliday takes out his nightstick and starts beating the ever-loving crud out of the lawyer and says, "Do you want me to stop, or just slow down?"
IT AIN'T ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO BE A WISE ASS!!!!!
