START OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 8/14/06 Meeting:
Meeting convened at 7:03 pm, 13 members (2 probationary) present, thus there was not a quorum in attendance. No business was conducted, members ate dinner and discussed various issues.
Meeting adjourned at 7:51 pm.
END OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 8/14/06 Meeting.
New Skeet Account System: In order to reduce the burden on club volunteers, starting this year you will no longer receive a skeet account statement via mail or email. Instead your account will be posted in the middle skeet house (where the skeet log books are) and you can see how much you have in your account at the end of each quarter. You still have to log in the rounds you shoot in the notebooks, but your account statement will no longer be sent to you. You are responsible for keeping up with your skeet account and making sure it never goes into the red.

FROM THE LEGISLATIVE BENCH
From The Legislative Bench... the following list of pro-gun bills, provided by the NRA, should receive our support.
Please review these legislative initiatives and be sure to contact your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121, and your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121, and urge him or her to cosponsor and support these measures. Additional contact information can be found using the "Write Your Representatives" feature at www.NRAILA.org.
. H.R. 5092-Improves BATFE's process for punishing the few FFLs who violate the law, and establishes guidelines for BATFE investigations. This bill was drafted in large part to address recent BATFE abuses at Richmond, VA-area gun shows highlighted in hearings before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.
. H.R. 5005 -Codifies congressional policies, rolls back restrictions, and corrects errors in federal firearm laws.
. H.R. 1384 -Removes several antiquated and unnecessary restrictions imposed on interstate firearms transactions since 1968.
. H.R. 1288/S. 1082 -Repeals the draconian D.C. gun ban and restores the right of lawful District residents to own firearms to defend themselves and their families.
. H.R. 4547/S. 3275 -Allows any person with a valid carry permit or license issued by a state to carry a concealed firearm in any other state if he or she meets certain criteria. Importantly, the laws of each state governing where concealed firearms may be carried would still apply within its borders.
For additional information on these bills, visit www.NRAILA.org.
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable opening of the dove season... Saturday’s temperature was a welcome relief. When you journey to the dove field with more than one firearm in case you have a major malfunction you have the solution to your problem back at the vehicle... whew! Well, if it is up to the likes of Lisa Price, the director of North Carolinians Against Gun Violence (NCGV), you will have to slooooow down your firearm purchases. She intends to have legislation introduced in the next session of the General Assembly that will include gun rationing (aka “one-gun-a-month”), mandatory federal tracing, etc. Lisa Price is the spouse of Congressman David Price (D-4, 0-star rating by GRNC)... birds of a feather... sorry, dove.
Can you imagine “one-gun-a-month”? ;>( I know some spouses may think the “one-gun-a-month” may help the family budget, but we certainly need the option for more. Primarily, it’s a Second Amendment issue! Keep a shooter’s eye on this.
Aim safely,
Ron
ASHLEY HIGH SCHOOL GUN RANGE UPDATE
For BGC members' information - As of Sept 2, the Ashley gun range is completed to the following extent: The concrete floor is in. Roof and steel walls and insulation are up, along with substantial steel beam supports. There is no ventilation installed nor start on inside walls, but of course these must follow. I'll check again in a couple more weeks. Bottom line is that the facility is being built, is being built well, but I cannot yet suggest an opening date; my guess is Jan 1 or so.

BUCCANEER RANGE REGULATOR GAZETTE
August 1897
Headline: Dick Holliday Joins Monastery
Dick Holliday felt bad for all his years of hellraising, drinking, and gunfighting so to make up for all his past sins he decided to join the monastery.....When Dick the monk arrives at the monastery, he is assigned to helping the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand. He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript. So, Dick the Monk goes to the head abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all subsequent copies.
The head monk says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son."
He goes down into the dark caves underneath the monastery where the original manuscripts are held as archives in a locked vault that hasn't been opened for hundreds of years. Hours go by and nobody sees the old abbot.
So, Dick the Monk gets worried and goes down to look for him. He sees him
banging his head against the wall wailing,
"We missed the "R" !" His forehead is all bloody and bruised and he is crying
uncontrollably. Dick the monk asks the old abbot, "What's wrong, father?"
With a choking voice, the old abbot replies, "The word was... CELEBRATE!!!"
