START OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 9/12/05 Meeting:
Meeting started at 7:00 pm, presided over by President John Scott. 10 members were present. There was not a quorum present and no official business was conducted, thus the minutes from the August meeting and the August Treasurer’s Report were not approved.
Member Robert Neale offered the following resolution, to be acted on at the October 10 meeting:
Resolution to Support A New Rifle Range At Ashley High School
Whereas:
To the best of my knowledge, all the high schools of New Hanover and Brunswick Counties, except Ashley High School, currently have buildings dedicated to the training of and competition among students in the discipline of air rifle shooting; and
Ashley High School has raised about half the $135,000 needed for construction of a similar facility (as of August 2005); and
The Ashley High School shooting team has has outstanding success in its first three years under the auspices of the NJROTC program directed by CWO David Foster; and
The Ashley High School NJROTC program includes some 140 students who can apply for the discipline of air rifle team shooting; and
The NRA has contributed $5000 towards the building of Ashley's new range.
Therefore be it resolved:
That Buccaneer Gun Club, as part of its 2006 budget, shall contribute to the Ashley High School air rifle building fund via the NJROTC Booster Club a sum of $1000, which approximates $5 per member, or a greater or lesser amount as approved by vote of the membership.
Notes: [1] An optional contribution of $5 or $10 to help support this resolution could be offered to gun club members at the next payment of renewal dues. [2] All contributions will be applied to building the range; none of the funds will be used to outfit it for shooting or to pay any operational expenses. [3] A contribution of $50 gets two lines on a construction brick; $100 gets four lines; and $1000+ gets the brick plus an inscribed wall plaque inside the facility, which I think would be a great thing for Buccaneer to show our continuing support of the shooting sports.
Offered by Robert S. Neale 12 September 2005
Bill Murrell noted that North Carolina had the first female open gun champion at the State Skeet Shoot - Katy Reynolds of Durham won the 28 ga with 100/100 and outlasted 13 other shooters in a shootoff.
Meeting petered out at 7:23 pm.
END OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 9/12/05 Meeting.
NOTICE TO ALL RIFLE AND PISTOL SHOOTERS:
Please do not park your vehicle on the rocks that have recently been place next to the rifle sheds. They are covering drainage pipes that could be crushed. We are trying to improve the drainage around the shed. If you back up to the shed, please stop short of the newly placed gravel.
MONTHLY SKEET SHOOT – September 11
We had 10 shooters attend, John Scott had the top score (50) with Jeff DeSantis coming in second (49). An unusual feature was 2 shoot-offs with doubles on stations 3, 4 and 5. One was between Mrs. Genny McHenry and Mr. Bobbie McHenry. Bobbie won (and by winning he lost), but peace and quite seemed to reign in the family. The other shootoff was between William Montgomery and Lewis Carlton, with Mr. Montgomery winning.. Congratulations winners.

Headline: The Cowboy and the Preacher
One Sunday, a cowboy went to church. When he entered, he saw that he and the preacher were the only ones present. The preacher asked the cowboy if he wanted him to go ahead and preach. The cowboy said, "I'm not too smart, but if I went to feed my cattle and only one showed up, I'd feed him." So the minister began his sermon.
One hour passed, then two hours, then two-and-a-half hours. The preacher finally finished and came down to ask the cowboy how he had liked the sermon. The cowboy answered slowly, "Well, I'm not very smart, but if I went to feed my cattle and only one showed up, I sure wouldn't feed him all the hay."
The September match went off without a hitch with 12 cowboys in attendance.......We had the Texas Star spinning with the help of a weight that was activated when we shot one of the shotgun targets. It wasn't spinning fast enough for match director Holliday so next time you may see a little more weight on it. Congratulations to Dodge City Dan who was the only cowboy who didn't have to resort to the shotgun to clean up the missed plates on the star. Dan was shooting his first cowboy match so we expect to see big things from him in the future.
Scores went like this:
Traditional Traditional 2nd flight Duelist Seniors Seniors 2nd Flight
Dick Holliday Rocky Point Rebel Cowboy Cloud Roberdel Dodge City Dan
Colonel Case Hardin Marshall Idaho Spud Tom Two Feathers
Bullseye Mike Bourbon Shooter Doc Clock
Well that's it for September so posse up with us the third Saturday in October....so in the meantime don't forget ........."Take a kid shooting".......Rspectfully submitted.....Ned Bluntline
