PRES IDENT’S MESSAGE: We have cleaned out the clubhouse and would like to make it more of an informal meeting place, a place where you can meet friends and relax after a shoot. Thus we need comfortable sofas, nice chairs and other furniture. We do not need old raggedy stuff, but nice furniture that would make the place comfortable. If you have any please contact me: John Scott 675-9357 (H) 470-8457 (cell) Scottaa410@aol.com
MEMBERSHIP DUES NOTE: Your annual club dues statement was included in the December newsletter. Your dues, along with any work day payments and proof of NRA membership must be returned to the club by January 31, 2005, or your membership will be revoked. As you can see below, there are 40 prospective new members waiting to get into the club, so there is no leeway for late dues. If they are not in the club mailbox on or before January 31, you will not be a BGC member in 2005. When you send in your dues, please include the receipt.
WE NEED YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS: Please send your e-mail address to the Secretary (ccaasmfc@cs,com), it is cheaper to send the newsletter that way, plus you will get club notices and For Sale items faster. In addition, I have about 2 dozen e-mail addresses that are now undeliverable, if you used to get your newsletter via e-mail and do not now, please send in your new e-mail address.
START OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 12/13/04 Meeting:
The meeting was called to order at Pearl’s Restaurant by President John Scott at 7:07 P.M. The November minutes and the Treasurers report, as reported in the November newsletter, were approved.
Unfinished Business: The Club All Around shoot was discussed and the date moved to January 22 (see description below). The Dave Miller Deer Rifle Challenge will be January 29.
New Business: The BGC 2005 Calendar of Events was discussed and is enclosed.
The method of recording work days was discussed, all workdays are recorded and kept by the Vice president and then submitted to the membership chairman. Workdays earned are then recorded on members mailing label.
The lack of heating and air in the clubhouse was discussed, making it unusable in the coldest and hottest months. Thus the feasibility of installing a unit in the clubhouse was investigated, Don Sloop obtained an estimate of $4,200 for the complete installation, with work commencing as soon as approval was granted. A motion was made and seconded to install heating and air conditioning in the clubhouse.
ELECTION OF 2005 OFFICERS:
The officers for 2005 were elected at the December 2004 meeting.
President: John Scott Vice President: David Morgan
Secretary: Dick Brame Treasurer: Don Pelling
Note: The slate remained the same as in 2004, despite strong urging from some officers that replacements volunteer from the audience.
ATTENDANCE: 27
ADJOURNMENT: Motion made and seconded to adjourn. Adjournment was at 7:45 P.M
END OF UNAPPROVED MINUTES for the 12/13/04 Meeting.
BGC Club All Around Shoot – January 22
The BGC All-Around Shoot will be held this year on Saturday, January
22. This is the “Bragging Rights” shoot for the club, as it consists of
rifle, pistol and shotgun. There is no pre-registration, just show up ready
to have a good time. The event will be:
Pistol: 25 shots at 25 yards. Any pistol, any sights.
Rifle: 25 shots at 100 yards. Any rifle, any sights.
Shotgun: 25 skeet targets. Any shotgun.
Come on out and participate, test your skills and have a good time.
Dave Miller Deer Rifle Challenge - January 29
Sgt Miller once again volunteered to organize the Dave Miller Deer Rifle Challenge on Saturday, January 29th , 2005. Same rules as last year, bring your deer rifle and be prepared to have a great time. In addition, Sgt. Miller will serve up some good food for all. If you have never attended this event you owe it to yourself to give it a try.
Rules. Bring your favorite "venison getter”. Any rifle that is legal by North Carolina standards for deer hunting is eligible. No target rifles or target ammo please. This is a match designed to test your skills with a deer rifle. One rifle, one box of ammo. No sight changes allowed between shots. Coaching and shot calling is encouraged, so is practicing for the next couple of months. 5 minutes at each position. Course of fire begins with you shooting at the standing position first, then kneel/sit, prone third and then the bench. You are done in 20 minutes. A new shooter/s begins every 5 minutes. Shooting jackets, slings, and shooting gloves are o.k. and all types of sights. Please bring guests and kids. Eye and ear protection is required. You can shoot in both categories if you want to bring two rifles.
Two categories this year. I had several folks approach me last year to inquire into a more traditional form of rifle hunting. So be it. I will make the final decision on which category you shoot in if there are any questionable calls for those of you with some strange rifles. Course of fire is as follows:
Traditional Category: 30‑30, 45‑70, 444, 35 Rem, 44 mag, slug guns, all pistols etc (0800 – 1000)
Shots 5 5 5 5
Position/Range(yards) Stand/25 Sit/Kneel/50 Prone/100 Bench/200
Modern Category: (1000 ‑ 1200)
Shots 5 5 5 5
Position/Range(yards) Stand/50 Sit/Kneel/100 Prone/200 Bench/300
I will provide the targets, lunch and trophies (position and total). Please call me at home (452‑3416) or E‑Mail me at Millerk5@AOL.com to reserve a spot for you or if you have any questions.
5-Man Team Skeet and Trap Shoot
The first 5-Man Skeet and Trap challenge with Camp LeJeune was held December 5, BGC fielded 4 shooters so we lost. We need shooter to come out and participate at the next shoot January 12 at BGC. Cost: $20.00 entry fee per event including targets (which we recommend the club charge $3.00 per round for targets).
When: December 5, 2004 – LeJeune Recreational Shooing Club
January 16, 2005 – Buccaneer Gun Club
February 20, 2005 – LeJeune Recreational Shooting Club
March 6, 2005 – Buccaneer Gun Club (Awards Ceremony with food & drinks)
